This nano-satellite was a small replica (1/3 model) of the Sputnik 1 satellite.
Sputnik 41 (also called RS 18) was launched aboard Progress-M 40 and ejected from the Mir complex by cosmonauts as they started an EVA on November 10, 1998 at 19:24 UT (time of hatch opening).

A 200 mW transmitter is located in the satellite, transmitting on the radioamateur 144 MHz (2 m) band using FM modulation. The frequency is 145,812 MHz.

The beacon will send two pre recorded messages in three languages, one recording of the "beep-beep". The frequency of the tone will translate the satellite internal temperature.
